Do’s and Dont's in writing a Sales Letter

There are always some Do's and Dont's which need to kept in mind while framing a Sales letter.

To demonstrate the Do's an example sales letter of a company selling Children story books is shown under:

 Do:
  • Make an impact on reader's mind in the opening paragraph - Get the reader's attention and get to the point "Here is your oportunity to endow a child with one of life's most precious gifts- a love of good reading. Every youngest should have access to the fun and excitement of fine, wholesome literature - reading that encourages him to search out more of the high quality.THE CHILDREN STORIES offers over 1,000 pages of the best literature for children of all ages- from the youngest to the teen-ager."
  • Exhibit the benefits - Tell the reader the benefits of getting the product.
  • Ask for future action - This the most important part of the sales letter. The goal is to convert the reader into a customer,"SEND NO MONEY - but mail your order TODAY!"
 Don't
  •  Flaunt about your company - Keep in mind; it is not about who you are? Rather the sales letter is about what you can do for the reader?
  • Give away everything - Remember you want the customer take a further action by calling you or meeting you. Only the relevant and necessary details should be included in the sales letter, the other details can be discussed later on.
  • Try to be ball of fire - Being Pushy in sales sometimes backfires.

So readers, do you agree with what I said ?  If you have any more Do's and Don't that come across your mind , please feel free to comment.
